Canada Applies Retaliatory Tariff Measures Effective March 4, 2025
After a 30-day pause, the United States administration has decided to proceed with imposing 25% tariffs on Canadian exports and 10% tariffs on Canadian energy. Please refer to the following documents for more information.
Effective March 4th, 2025, in response to the US imposition of tariffs on goods imported into the US from Canada, certain goods imported into Canada originating in the US are subject to a surtax in the amount of 25% of the value for duty in accordance with the United States Surtax Order (2025-1). The full list of tariff items subject to surtax is available here.
Please refer to following CBSA notice for more detailed information: Customs Notice 25-10: United States Surtax Order (2025-1).
Additionally, the Canadian federal government is seeking input on a second round of tariffs against $125 billion in imports of additional goods from the US. This second round of tariff countermeasures would be applied against the US if their Canadian goods tariff is not removed. Please visit the Government of Canada website for more information.
