Chinese Postal Code Required for Entry into the U.S.

blog | Mar 06, 2023

U.S. importers and their suppliers should take note that effective March 18, 2023, goods of Chinese origin entering the U.S. will require the Chinese manufacturer’s postal code be reported to customs for cargo release (entry) purposes.

In addition, adding or updating a Chinese manufacturer’s “Manufacturer Identification Number” (MID) with customs will also now need to include the correct postal code.

The Chinese postal code, along with all other required entry data elements, will be used by U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) to screen for imports not allowed entry under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.

Questions regarding this updated policy may be directed to CBP’s Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act help desk at [email protected].
