Port of Montreal Lockout as of November 10th, 2024

blog | Nov 11, 2024

The Port of Montreal Longshoremen's Union (CUPE Local 375) rejected the comprehensive and final offer from the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) yesterday, November 10th, 2024. As announced by the MEA, a lockout was declared and began last night.

As of Sunday, November 10th, at 9:00 PM, all terminals, except those listed below, will be closed until further notice. Access will be prohibited and no services to rail, trucks or ships will be provided. The following Port of Montreal terminals will remain in service:

  • The Bickerdike terminal
  • The Viterra grain terminal
  • Liquid bulk terminals

Impact on Port Operations

Delays are expected as port and vessel operations will be significantly impacted during this work stoppage.

To circumvent the lockout, some carriers are diverting their vessels to the Port of Halifax, to temporarily discharge containers while waiting for labour disputes to be settled.

Delmar is monitoring the situation and will share additional pertinent information as needed.
