The PSAC Initiates Immediate Strike Action

blog | Apr 19, 2023

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), a union representing over 155 000 public sector civil servants in Canada, has announced immediate strike action after failing to reach a new employment agreement with the federal government. The action is effective April 19, 2023. PSAC members work in over 20 various government departments and agencies, including the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Global Affairs Canada and Transport Canada (TC).

While core Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA or “Canada Customs”) trade services are expected to continue with minimal impact, other government agencies that manage specific import and export transactions may provide reduced or discontinued service due to the strike mandate. As a result, the processing and movement of Canadian cargo may be delayed. In-person strike actions or protests by members could also impact the function of government offices or Canadian ports of entry/exit.

Canadian importers and exporters are encouraged to monitor the situation closely. Delmar will continue to provide updates on this developing situation as additional information becomes available.
