Update – BCMEA Coastwide Lockout
Further to our previous update, the coastwide labour dispute involving the ILWU Local 514 and BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA), which started on November 4th, 2024, continues to impact operations at British Columbia terminals at the Ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert.
What Is Being Affected?
Marine Container Sector
All container terminals have been impacted. No containers will move in or out of the terminals until a resolution is reached. Container vessels are being anchored and dwelling outside of various port terminals.
Rail
Embargoes have been announced by rail carriers.
This dispute brings significant disruptions to container vessel and port operations across all BC terminals. Even with a quick resolution, it may take days or weeks for operations to return to normal. Carriers may consider diverting vessels to other West Coast ports, though no official diversions have been confirmed at this time.
More updates are available on the BC Maritime Employers Association and the ILWU websites.
Delmar will continue to monitor the situation and provide pertinent updates as they become available.
