blog | Jul 09, 2025

Overview

Following previous tariff updates, the United States (US) administration has announced an extension of the current 10% reciprocal import tariff on most countries, excluding China, until August 1, 2025.

In lieu of a formal trade agreement with the US, specific countries have received notice of the updated US reciprocal tariffs, effective August 1, 2025.

Below are the US administration’s current proposed reciprocal tariffs:

  • Japan (25%)
  • Korea (25%)
  • South Africa (30%)
  • Kazakhstan (25%)
  • Laos (40%)
  • Malaysia (25%)
  • Myanmar (40%)
  • Tunisia (25%)
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina (30%)
  • Indonesia (32%)
  • Bangladesh (35%)
  • Serbia (35%)
  • Cambodia (36%)
  • Thailand (36%)

The US has announced trade agreements and frameworks with some countries, including China, UK and Vietnam, while other agreements are under discussion.

It is important to note that countries without an agreement may have reciprocal tariffs imposed on their imports to the US.

US – Vietnam Tariff Update

  • The trade framework includes a 40% US tariff for products of a different origin transshipped through Vietnam.
  • Vietnamese-origin products will attract a 20% reciprocal tariff.

US importers should anticipate additional customs scrutiny for shipments from Vietnam, and possibly other countries, because of future agreements.
