Potential Transportation Disruptions Due to Typhoon Champi

Typhoon Champi is currently affecting the waters surrounding Taiwan and is forecasted to move into the East China Sea over the coming days. 

The storm is bringing strong winds, heavy rainfall, and adverse operating conditions that may affect transportation between Asia and North America. 

Transportation Impacts 

Weather conditions may result in schedule changes, reduced transportation capacity, delays, cargo rollovers, missed connections, routing adjustments, operational backlogs, and revised arrival times for shipments moving between Asia and North America. 

Not all shipments will be affected. The extent of any impact will depend on the specific origin, destination, carrier, airline, port, and routing involved.  

Regional Updates 

• China: Mainland ports are currently operating normally based on the latest information received from our local team. However, precautionary measures, schedule adjustments, and operational delays remain possible as the storm progresses.

• Taiwan: Adverse weather conditions have already resulted in disruptions to certain port operations, including the suspension of vessel movements at the Port of Taichung. Additional impacts to transportation infrastructure and logistics operations may occur as weather conditions evolve. 

Shipment Monitoring and Recommendations 

For shipments currently in transit or already booked:  

• We are actively monitoring shipment statuses and working with our airline, ocean carriers and logistics partners to identify potential disruptions and communicate significant changes as information becomes available. 

For upcoming shipments:  

• We recommend allowing additional transit time where possible and booking in advance to help secure capacity.  

• Alternative routings may be considered where available.
