Canada Extends Steel Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQs) for Non-CUSMA Imports
Overview
Following the previous announcement on tariff rate quotas (TRQs) for steel imports, revised quota levels came into effect on December 26, 2025, as part of broader measures to support the domestic steel industry and address global overcapacity and trade pressures.
Please be advised that as recently announced, subject to approval by the Governor in Council, Canada will extend its steel TRQ regime for imports from non-CUSMA partners for an additional one-year period.
Key Details
- The current TRQ period will transition to the next quarter on June 28, 2026.
- Shipment-specific import permit applications may be submitted up to 15 days before the expected date of entry.
- Accordingly, the first permit applications for goods entering on June 28, 2026, may be submitted starting June 13, 2026, at 00:01 a.m. (ET).
