Important Information for Importers

Importers should note the following:

  • Upon import, affected products must indicate the steel or aluminum content by kilogram, value and indicate the original country of melt and pour (or cast).
  • Imports subject to US Section 232 Steel & Aluminum tariffs are not subject to additional IEPPA Reciprocal tariffs.
  • Most products classified under HTSUS Chapter 98 will be subject to Section 232 tariffs if the steel or aluminum content is not from the US. Please see CSMS #42355735 for details.
  • Effective with entry on or after June 28, 2025, failure to identify the country of melt and cast (reporting a country of "Unknown") will result in a US Customs application of the current 200% tariff for Russia origin aluminum. Please see CSMS #65340246.
  • For both steel and aluminum imports, importers are reminded to source and retain current producer certificates to support claims made to US Customs.

Affected importers are strongly encouraged to clarify their understanding of these tariffs, along with any updated developments prior to import.
